Allgemeines zur Herren Nationalmannschaft
Die Schweizer Herren Lacrosse Nationalmannschaft ist die offizielle Auswahl, welche die Schweiz an European Lacrosse Federation (ELF) und Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Turnieren vertritt. Ihre Zusammensetzung wird einerseits von den existierenden internationalen Regeln bestimmt. Andererseits verfolgt die Nationalmannschaft das Ziel die Sportart Lacrosse soweit möglich in der Schweiz zu fördern, weshalb national verankerten Spielern der Vorzug gegeben wird. Kee Joe Song ist der Head Coach. Das Team wird von Ian Schoch und seinem Assistenten Tobias Geser gemanaged. Under Armour und sein Schweizer Vetreter Move Sport Style sind die offiziellen Ausrüster der Herrennationalmannschaft.
Entstehung
Die Schweizer Herren Lacrosse Nationalmannschaft wurde 2007 im Hinblick auf die ELF Lacrosse Europameisterschaften 2008 in Lahti, Finnland gegründet. Die Mannschaft bereitete sich mit einigen Trainings und der Teilnahme am Austrian Nations Cup 2008 auf das Turnier vor, begegnete aber schon in der ersten Runde dem späteren Europameister aus England. Die Niederlage war voraussehbar und symbolisch für das restliche Turnier. Dieser erste Auftritt an einer EM war eine lehrreiche Erfahrung und Ergebnisse waren von sekundärer Natur. Schlussendlich wurde die Schweizer Auswahl 16. von 18 Nationen. Nur Frankreich und Italien fielen weiter zurück.
Erste Weltmeisterschaften
Schon zwei Jahre später sollten im Sommer 2010 die FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England stattfinden. Mittlerweile hatte sich die nationale Spielerbasis stark entwickelt, sodass zum ersten Mal ein Auswahlverfahren Anwendung fand. Wechsel im Staff der Mannschaft, verbesserte Organisation, sowie erste Deals mit Sponsoren trugen den veränderten Bedingungen Rechnung. Auch die Vorbereitung wurde ein Stück professioneller, mit einer Serie von Scrimmages gegen süddeutsche Klubmannschaften, sowie der Teilnahme am Berlin Open. Die Mannschaft profitierte in Manchester von der ausgezeichneten Organisation des Turniers und dem globalen Wachstum der Sportart. Das Ziel unter den besten 20 aus 30 Nationen zu landen, wurde wegen einer ärgerlichen und knappen Niederlage gegen Italien verpasst.
Europameisterschaften 2012
Im FrĂĽhling 2011 begannen die Vorbereitungen fĂĽr die Europameisterschaften 2012 in Amsterdam. Die beachtliche Zahl von 80 Kandidaten hatte sich angemeldet. Diese Zahl sollte in den kommenden Monaten auf 26 reduziert werden. Die ersten Trainings dienten nur der Evaluation, welche in einer Trainingswoche inklusive Teilnahme am Berlin Open gipfelte. Dabei konnte sich auch das neu gebildete Coaching Team den Kandidaten vorstellen.
Nach Abschluss dieser Cuts beginnt die Planung für 2012 und somit auch der finale Countdown für die EM in Holland. Die Erlebnisse und Fortschritte der Mannschaft können über diverse Kanäle im Internet mit verfolgt werden:

About: Men’s Lacrosse National Team
The Swiss men’s Lacrosse national team is the official team that represents Switzerland in European Lacrosse Federation (ELF) and Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) tournaments. Its composition is subject to the international rules of eligibility. In addition, it is the national teams policy to aid the growth of the sport in Switzerland, thus primarily players that play in Switzerland are selected. Kee Joe Song is the head coach. The team is managed by Ian Schoch, who is assisted by Tobias Geser. Under Armour and its Swiss agent Move Sport Style are the official sponsors of the men’s national team.
Formation
The Swiss men’s Lacrosse national team was founded in 2007 as the result of an official invitation to the ELF Lacrosse European Championships in Lahti, Finland. The newly formed team made the best of its practices and the Austrian Nations Cup as means of preparation, but was fated to encounter the future European champions from England in its very first game. The defeat was predictable and a symbol for the rest of the tournament. This first appearance at a European championship was an important experience and the actual results were of secondary nature. Ultimately the Swiss selection came in 16th out of 18 nations. Only France and Italy were ranked lower.
First World Championships
Just two years later, in the summer of 2010, the FIL World Lacrosse Championships were set to take place in Manchester, England. In the mean time the men’s game had grown so fast in Switzerland that a player selection procedure had to be implemented. Staff changes, improved organization and ground breaking deals with sponsors are but some of the symptoms of the development and progress of the sport in Switzerland. The national team preparation grew increasingly professional and included scrimmages against southern German club teams, as well as participation in the Berlin Open. At the world games the team profited from the excellent tournament organization and the overall global growth of the sport itself. The goal of finishing among the top 20 of 30 participating nations was narrowly missed due to a vexing defeat at the hands of the Italians.
European Championships 2012
Preparations for the European Championships 2012 in Amsterdam, Holland began in earnest in Spring 2011. A remarkable 80 candidates had signed up. This number was to be cut down to 26 over the months to come. The initial practices were geared at the evaluation of candidates, which culminated in a week-long training camp including the 2011 installment of the Berlin Open. The newly formed coaching staff took the opportunity to introduce itself to the candidates.
Having concluded the necessary cuts, planning for 2012 has commenced and thus also the final count down towards the EC in Holland. The experiences and development of the team can be followed on the internet via the following channels:
